A new year means a fresh start for all major regions competing in professional League of Legends esports! Gear up for the 12th season of the League of Legends European Championship (LEC), commencing with the Winter Split on January 13th.

With some newcomers and plenty of fan-favorite players, the LEC Winter Split pits some of the best teams in the region against each other for a chance of gold and glory. There's everything to play for with a €80,000 EUR prize pool on the line.

Keep reading for a complete overview of LEC Winter 2024, including the format, the ten competing teams, current standings, streams, and more!

LEC Winter Split 2024: Format

Like previous years, the LEC plays through three different splits over the year, including Winter Split, Spring Split, and Summer Split. Each season segment is finished with a more significant event, like the Mid-Season Invitation in Spring and LoL Worlds in Summer.

To determine their qualification and seeding for these big tournaments, each team can earn Championship Points based on their performances in their home league.

For 2024, the LEC Winter season is divided into the Regular Season and the Bracket Stage/Playoffs. Unlike other professional regional leagues, there is no Group Stage.

Regular Season

  • Ten teams compete in a single bracket, round-robin style.
  • All matches are played as Bo1.
  • Eight teams progress onto the Playoffs Bracket Stage.
  • All games will be played on patch 14.1.

Bracket Stage

  • Eight teams compete in a double-elimination bracket.
  • Rounds 1 and 2 are Bo3, while all other matches are Bo5.
  • The winner qualifies for the MSI 2024 and secures their spot at the LEC Finals 2024.
