Minecraft and developers Mojang actively involve their loyal community in upcoming updates, giving them a platform to voice what they want to see next. One way Mojang involves its fans is the annual Minecraft Live event featuring a Mob Vote. Here, players could vote for one of three potential new Minecraft mobs to be added to every Minecraft world.

The three new mobs that entered the 2023 Mob Vote ring this year are the Penguin, the Crab, and the Armadillo. Only one mob emerged victorious, but which one?

Read on for everything you need to know about this year's mob vote, including the winner, the two runner-ups, and even the 2022 Minecraft Live Mob Vote winner.

Minecraft Live 2023: Mob Vote

The 2023 Mob Vote involved the Armadillo, Penguin, and Crab, as over 5 million players flocked to the Minecraft launcher for their diplomatic say. Of those votes, 42.3% were for the Armadillo, making it the winner and the next new mob to be added to Minecraft.

The Armadillo will likely be added to Minecraft 1.21. The runner-up in second place was the Crab with 32.5% of the votes, while the Penguin came in a respectable 3rd with 25.2%. Both the Crab and the Penguin will likely be added to Minecraft games in the future, so keep your eyes peeled!

Minecraft Live Mob Vote: The Penguin

Decked out with blond toupees, the Penguin could be found in the Stony Shores biome. Amphibious creatures of habit, Penguins can be seen speeding around the nearby oceans or frolicking in flocks on the shore. While they look grumpy, these Penguins are loveable and friendly mobs.

While we are curious if the Penguin would be tameable, we do know that they possess a unique ability to aid you on your journeys by speeding your boat up in the water like a turbo-engine.

Minecraft Live Mob Vote: The Crab

The cutesy Crab would reside on land and water in the Mangrove Swamp biome. Featuring the iconic scuttle sidestep we all associate with Crabs, they can be hard to spot due to their small stature. The Crab was, unfortunately, the second mob to be voted out.

While these Crabs won't break into songs like Sebastian from The Little Mermaid, they have their own uses. Each Crab is characterized by its trademark giant claw, an item that players could use to place blocks even further away. Handy! Or claw-y?

Minecraft Live Mob Vote: The Armadillo

The Armadillo won the 2023 Mob Vote! As another friendly mob, Armadillos call the Savannah biome their home. When threatened, they can roll themselves into a ball and roll away as a defensive mechanism.

The best thing about Armadillos is their unique drop. Upon killing them, they will have a chance to drop some special spiny gear that can be used to craft wolf armor to protect your precious pets from any foul play as you explore everything Minecraft has to offer.

Minecraft Live Mob Vote 2022: Sniffer

Last year's Mob Vote brought the newest Minecraft mob, the Sniffer, into the ring as the winner by a landslide of over 50% of the votes. They were added in the game in the Minecraft 1.20 "Trails & Tales" update. Sniffers, with their large signature snout, look almost prehistoric and dinosaur-like in nature. As their name suggests, Sniffers can "sniff out" rare goods like Torchflower Seeds and Pitcher Pods.

Sniffers could only be found as Sniffer Eggs, excavated from Suspicious Sand in the Warm Ocean Ruins mini-biome. These larger-than-life mobs cannot be mounted but can be bred to create a Sniffer army!

How can I vote in next year's mob vote?

While the fun is over for the 2023 Mob Vote, you can gear up to get involved in nexr year's one! The Mob Vote usually occurs on Minecraft.net, the special Bedrock edition server, or the Minecraft launcher. To ensure the process stays fair and safe, you need to sign in using your Microsoft account to cast your vote. The 2023 mob vote opened on October 14, 12PM EDT, and remained open for 24 hours. Remember that it's always one vote per person, so consider your options carefully when voting next time.

New to the 2023 Minecraft Live, indecisive voters could change their minds as much as they wanted over the voting period. Voting in Minecraft Bedrock Edition also meant that players could play mini-games while exploring with their fellow Minecraft players!

Final Thoughts

That's all the information we have on the 2023 Minecraft Mob Vote. We can't wait to dive into a fresh Minecraft world and see Armadillo flocks running wild and free.
